WABC-TV's Eyewitness News This Morning will start at 4:30am, beginning on Tuesday September 7th. This follows a recent trend in which WPIX, WNYW, and WNBC have moved their newscast start times up to 4:30am, in order to cater to viewers who get up earlier for their commutes. This leaves WCBS's CBS 2 News This Morning as the only morning newscast in the market to start at 5am.

WCBS News Director Promoted
David Friend, Vice-President and News Director of WCBS was promoted today to become the senior vice president of all O&O news operations, a new post. He will continue to oversee WCBS's news operation as News Director. Under Friend's leadership, WCBS's news operation rose to 2nd place in the market, after being perennially 3rd place for most of the 2000s. Friend joined WCBS in 2006 from CNBC, where he served as Senior Vice President of Business News.

WNBC Debuts "Daily Connection"
Tracie Strahan and Erika Tarantal host the first edition of Daily Connection |
When I first heard that WNBC was going to launch a local version of Daily Connection, I must admit that I was skeptical. The premise of Daily Connection is that NBC will send the show to its O&Os nearly complete, with stories, graphics, and anchor scripts already made. Each station can tweak it to their liking, but for the most part, it is a pre-fab current affairs show. First launched at WRC in Washington last autumn, Daily Connection has expanded to WMAQ in Chicago, KNBC in Los Angeles, and (obviously) WNBC in New York.
